An Alibaba quote can be a useful starting point, but it is not always the final cost or the real quality level. Before you pay for samples or place a bulk order, it is worth checking whether the quote makes sense.
Start with the full cost, not only unit price
The unit price is only one part of the order. You also need sample cost, domestic shipping in China, packaging cost, logo cost, inspection cost, export carton details, international shipping, duties, and payment fees. A quote that looks cheap can become expensive once these items are added.
Compare quality assumptions
Two suppliers can quote the same product at very different prices because they are not quoting the same quality. Ask about material, size, weight, thickness, color consistency, accessories, packaging, and test standards. If you are comparing quotes, make sure the specifications are the same.
Watch for red flags
- The supplier refuses to send real product photos or videos
- The price is much lower than every other quote
- The MOQ changes after you ask for custom packaging
- The supplier avoids clear sample cost or lead time
- Product photos look like screenshots from another store
- The shipping quote is vague or missing carton size and weight
Ask for sample-first details
For a new supplier, ask whether they can send one sample or a small test order. A sample is not only about seeing the product; it also shows communication speed, packaging quality, shipping reliability, and whether the supplier understands your requirements.
Use a local check when the risk is high
If the order is important, a local sourcing check can compare the quote with market options, inspect the sample, or record a product video before you commit. This is especially useful for ecommerce sellers who cannot visit China in person.

A two-supplier quotation comparison you can copy
This comparison is optional. You can contact York with a product link, a simple idea or an existing quotation—you do not need to complete the table first. Share what you have; missing details can be clarified in follow-up before any paid work is agreed.

Optional: open the two-supplier comparison table
Send both suppliers the same specification and order quantities, then copy this table into your document and complete it from their written replies. Mark unanswered items not confirmed: a blank or missing charge does not mean zero. This is a blank comparison tool, not a real quotation or cost-saving example.
On a small screen, swipe within the table to see both supplier columns.

Do not rank quotes by unit price until specifications, quantities and cost inclusions are comparable. A complete or competitive quotation is not proof that a supplier is reliable; samples, written approvals and agreed checks still matter.
